After the break-up of the communist regimes the research regarding their history has advanced far in European historiography and has shown that despite uniformity of the model there are many differences in historical experiences depending on the country and the stage of development of the system. Croatian historiography does not quite follow European historiography in this area. Missing aspects relate to both the topics and methodology. Research in social history has been sporadic and many subjects in political and diplomatic history are still to be explored as well. In this regard, systematic research of Croatian communist history has to reconstruct, analyze and make transparent the specifics associated with the Croatian position during the period when she was part of the post-war Yugoslavia. Also, there is a series of different topics not yet researched, or with a biased interpretation. The contributors will use an interdisciplinary approach and make appropriate comparisons with other former communist states. The main topics in the project are chronologically diverse but, on the whole, they form a mosaic of most historically important events and processes in the period 1945-1990: British view on Croatia – Croatia in British policy towards Yugoslavia 1949-1955, UDB-a: the security, intelligence and counterintelligence agency of the Yugoslav communist regime 1944-1953, The impact of industrialization on social changes and habits in Croatia in the 50′s, The health situation in Croatia 1945-1952, Political biography of Veceslav Holjevac and The anti-fascist legacy in forming of public opinion in Croatia. The results of the research will be presented to the public in the form of scientific articles and monographs. The junior researchers will present and acknowledge their research as doctoral theses. Besides scholarly aims, the project results could be used for educational purposes and also of interest to the wider public because some of these topics have been creating very different and adverse opinions for a long time.
